Canada’s military training mission in Afghanistan has come to and end as that country undergoes a major political transition while facing an evermore lethal insurgency, declining international assistance and increasing humanitarian needs. To explore the short- to medium-term prospects for Afghanistan, the Centre for International Policy Studies (CIPS), Univeristy of Ottawa, Afghanistan: Pathways to Peace and Peacebuild – The Canadian Peacebuilding Network are co-sponsoring an off-the-record, information-sharing roundtable April 14 at the University of Ottawa. The objective is to engage Canadian and Afghan area specialists from humanitarian agencies, academia, as well as former and current government officials to share their perspectives on the humanitarian situation, security issues, political developments, what is or isn’t taking place in terms of a peace process, and possible options for future Canadian engagement. The roundtable is by invitation only and will be under the Chatham House Rule.
