The dissertation draws on cases from North Western Province / South Africa and Southern Katanga / DRC and analyses ‘old’ and ‘new’ modes of governance and the spatial configurations they produce in historical perspective.

As part of a project on business and corporate responsibility in developing countries she  has studied the mining industry in South Africa. She has been a visiting scholar at the Sociology of Work Unit at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (10-11 2007), and at the Centre of Criminology at the University of Cape Town (10-11 2008).Before joining the FU Berlin, she has worked as a research assistant in the DFG project “Governance beyond the state: Donor policies in Africa’s new social spaces” (University of Leipzig, Prof. Ulf Engel, 2005) and at the Environmental Research Centre Leipzig-Halle (ufz, 2005). She studied African Studies, Political Science and Economics at the University of Leipzig (1998-2005, Magister) and at the Centre d’Étude d’Afrique Noir at the IEP Bordeaux (2001/02).  Her research interests comprise African politics, the pluralisation of security governance, Western security and development policies and their effects and appropriation in Africa, business power and private authority, and theories of (re)space(ing) and discourse theory.
