Liam Mahony est le directeur de Fieldview Solutions, une firme-conseil qui aide les institutions internationales à améliorer leurs stratégies de protection et de résolution de conflit dans les zones de conflit.  Il est l’auteur de Unarmed Bodyguards: International Accompaniment for the Protection of Human Rights (Kumarian, 1997, coécrit avec Luis Enrique Eguren), Proactive Presence: Field Strategies for Civilian Protection (Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, 2006), et plus récemment Influence on the Ground: Understanding and Strengthening the Protection Impact of United Nations Human Rights Field Presences (Fieldview Solutions, 2012, coécrit avec Roger Nash). Anciennement chargé de cours en affaires publiques et internationales à la Woodrow Wilson School de Princeton, il est un pionnier de la théorie et de la pratique de la protection internationale. Il a travaillé pour plusieurs agences intergouvernementales et non gouvernementales telles que Peace Brigades International, Amnesty International, and the UN Offices for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the World Food Program, the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO), afin d’appuyer leurs efforts de développement de stratégies pratiques pour la protection des civils.
